Business Process Re-Engineering

The process of reconciling (matching) figures from accounting records of your company against those on a bank statement is known as Bank Reconciliation. Here, the balance of a company's accounting ledger should match with the balance of the bank statement.

Business process is an end-to-end work that produces something of value. The focus in a process is not on individual units of work, which by themselves accomplish nothing for a customer, but rather on an entire group of activities that, when effectively brought together, create a result that customers value. Process is composed of being together and organized. Typical example of processes include order fulfillment, product development, and order acquisition.

Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) is an approach directed towards improvements by means of elevating efficiency and effectiveness of the business process that exist within and across organizations. The bases for BPR for organizations is to evaluate there systems from an initial point of view, to streamline the existing business process as per how the business is conducted.
BPR follows a typical cycle where it has four stages namely “Identify processes”, “Review update, Analysis As-Is”, “Design To Be”, “Test & Implement To Be”. If we start discussing these stages there name are self explanatory but for the sake of making it simpler we will discuss all of these stages.

Identify processes require that we study the overall system of the organization as whole and pinpoint processes where there is a possibility of enhancement or improvement. Then we can figure out what part of the process can be made more effective. This procedure as a whole can help look into specific part of the whole system as that won’t affect the whole system, which can be detrimental.

Review update, Analysis As-Is, with the proposed idea of improvement, review is needed that will make sure that the changes would really help in implementing the solution as this might also help in analyzing the effect of the update. In case of Analysis As-Is, the would be enhancement is critically analyzed just to make sure if its implementation on the current system wouldn’t have an effect that would be detrimental to the whole system.
Design To-Be, a design is layout of the module that needs to be implemented. This gives a overview of the enhancement addressing the changes both in high level design as well as low level, which makes it easier to point out if there are any processes that need to be added to need to reviewed based on functionality of the system as a whole.
Test & Implement To-Be, with the design phase completed, next is testing the proposed changes as without testing the effort will be fruitless, as this testing will give a very fine view of how the enhancement will perform and what will be output. This will raise the confidence of the client as well as who are working on it, this also helps in sorting out any implementation issues that might arise later on.
